Why Did I Choose This Major?

14 Sep

Most students enter college thinking they know what they want to do for the rest of their life and due to the array of classes and distinct majors they change their mind. That is okay. You should do what you enjoy. A smart thing to research is the connection between your major and potential career opportunities.

One common myth is that a college major has direct correlation to a specific job. In most careers you will find people who majored in a variety of subjects. So I encourage you to take classes that will be enjoyable, and maybe it will be easier to pay attention! Remember that if you wish to apply to graduate school, law school, or medical school you can have an undergraduate degree in any major! Just make sure you meet the requirements. You may even be a more competitive candidate if you have a more diverse background! A good resource to find out more information on your major is your academic advisor.
A quick note to remember is that it will never be to late to change you major! If you feel that you need a new focus, talk to your advisor and see what direction is best to help you finish in four years!
