Monopolizing the Fun in Studying

12 Feb

Studying is no joke, which is probably why students hate having to do it so much. The pressure put on students to do well in all their classes is astronomical, and that pressure rears its ugly head while studying for a big exam or trying to write a term paper. IT DOESN’T HAVE TO BE THIS WAY! Studying can be both beneficial and fun, and I’m going to show you how I make studying fun for me.

The first step to enjoying studying is to get a head-start on it. Instead of watching Nexflix for 8 hours a night; change that to 5 or 6 and use the other 2-3 hours for reviewing what you did in class. Doing this will reduce the anxiety of not remembering things you did on certain days in class (I know this doesn’t sound like fun, but I’m getting to that).

Then next important step in enjoying studying is to feel relaxed while doing it. The first tip applies to this, but it’s more than that. Its about being in a place you feel comfortable, wearing what you feel comfortable in, not starving because you have to study instead of eating. You are more likely to retain the information you study if you are relaxed.

Finally, making the studying fun. Please note that this will be different for every person (depending on what appeals to them), but what I do to have fun while studying is make a game out of it. I’m not talking about using pink flashcards for verbs and orange for nouns while I study Greek, I am talking about taking a game like Monopoly (I prefer to use the Disney edition) and replacing the cards with terms/facts I need to know. You can adjust it to any subject you need, for example, in order to get a monopoly, you need to collect all of the bones in the hand. It might seem like a waste of time to make the cards, but you will find that you are actually studying subconsciously when you are creating the game.

As I said earlier, everyone has a different way of studying, and this way might not work for you. That is no reason to give up on trying to make your studying seem more fun!
