#FearlessFebruary: Escaping Fear

22 Feb

Hey, there! It’s a new month which means it’s time to try something different. This month we were given the topic of trying something fearless and outside of our comfort zone. Something I was kind of always hesitant on was trying out an escape room. I always thought they seemed interesting but I’m such a stressed out person and only having an hour to try and “escape the room” seemed a bit scary to me. But I thought it would be fun to go with a fellow Peer Mentor Alyssa, with the same hesitations, to come and check one out with me.

We decided to go check out a place called Escape Room Tucson, and we have no regrets! Because we don’t want to give away any spoilers, we’ll be giving you a general idea of what happens but can’t give out any specific information about the actual room and how we went about it.

To start everything off, getting to the actual escape room was not a difficulty. It was convincing Alyssa that the room wouldn’t be that unbearably hard and it would be fun and were very capable of completing it! We were also already there so we had to do it.

The theme of our room was Bomb Squad, so hopefully, that gives you guys an image of what we were going to experience. If you know anything about escape rooms, then you know that the whole point is to get out within the time limit they give you, which was an hour for us. This time limit is what really made us freak out. As soon as we got in and saw the timer start to count down, we started to panic. It’s also kind of hard because we didn’t know where to start and having the concept of a timer working against us did not help either. We kind of just started doing random things hoping that it would eventually lead us to the first clue but we ended up needing a clue to help us find it. Once we found it, we kind of figured out how to think the way they wanted us to think to find the clues. We got really close to figuring out the next piece but needed a clue again to find the clue the right way. We finally were on a roll but we ran out of time before we could complete it! I was really disappointed that we didn’t get to finish and escape the room and I think if we had maybe even ten more minutes, we would have been able to do it. But I was also so proud that the two of us, who were scared of attempting the room in the first place, got as far as we did!

Overall, I had an amazing time and I highly recommend checking one out! It really helped us think in a way we normally don’t and helped me at least become a little bit more creative when it comes to the way I go about situations now. I also got to know Alyssa a lot more and am so happy because she’s AMAZING! I hope this inspires you guys to try something you’d be a little skeptical on and end up doing something you normally wouldn’t do!
