Our wonderful Peer Mentors are so excited to work with you this year! Here’s a chance for you to learn a little bit more about us.
Hi everyone, my name is Alyssa Gutierrez! I’m a sophomore majoring in Chemical Engineering and minoring in Environmental Hydrology and Water Resources here at the U of A. Growing up in Phoenix, I know exactly what it’s like to face a lack of water. This problem is impacting millions of people across the globe, and I wish to help relieve it. In my spare time, I play tennis, volunteer to help spread awareness for women in STEM fields, and take naps with my two dogs, Landry and Cocoa. I’m very excited to be a Peer Mentor this year and learn about so many different people.
Hello everyone, I’m Amanda Henry! I’m a senior here in the University of Arizona’s Psychology program, a native Tucsonan, and a graduate of Tucson High. In my free time I enjoy painting, playing guitar, and writing creative fiction. I can’t wait to get to know you all!
Hi everyone, my name is Amna Mazhar! I’m a sophomore from Texas here at the University of Arizona. I’m studying MIS and Supply Chain Management. I was really excited to come out to Arizona despite my love for the Lonestar State, and so far my experience has been great! In my free time, I love to read, hang out with friends and family, and explore Tucson (there’s a lot more here than you think, don’t take all the mountains for granted y’all!). I am pumped for this school year and this job because more than anything, I love to listen and help people! So please know that you can always reach out to me. Can’t wait to meet all of you!
Hey y’all! My name is Chrissy Ellis and I am a senior studying Classical Mythology with a minor in Anthropology! I am a HUGE Harry Potter fan, and I love spending my free time reading. The main reason that I came to U of A was that it was the only school in the state that offered my major, so I chose U of A without ever stepping foot on campus. Fortunately, since I have been here I have found out what an amazing place it is and I am so happy I chose to come here!
Hi! My name is Courtney Kinion and I am a junior at the University of Arizona. I am a very creative person with a major in fine arts, with a focus in 3D studies, and a minor in fashion. I was born and raised in Tucson, Arizona and I am very adapted to this weather. I am a huge Chicago Blackhawks fan, love music, and watch UFC. I am super happy to be here and looking forward to graduating from the U of A. My end goal is to have a job in the art or fashion world. I look forward to meeting new people and if you see me around, don’t be afraid to say hello!
My name is Darius Amos, I am a junior here at here at the University of Arizona, and I’m a peer mentor for Academic Success & Achievement. I am currently majoring in Public Health with goals of soon applying to pharmacy school. During my free time, I enjoy playing sports, going out with friends, and watching movies. One thing in particular that I find unique about myself is my hate for onions. They are the most distasteful vegetable I’ve ever eaten. On a positive note, I’m looking forward to meeting new students and assisting them with resources throughout the academic year.
Hey, everyone! My name is Diana Ibarra and I am a junior at the University of Arizona. I am currently majoring in Psychology and Criminal Justice Studies with the hopes of one day earning my Ph.D. in clinical or forensic psychology (not quite sure yet). My main goal right now is to work with youths in the juvenile correctional facilities. I was born and raised in Phoenix, Arizona and decided to attend the U of A back when I thought I was going to be a medical student. I’ve since made some adjustments to my career path but I still love this school all the same! I am definitely a Phoenix girl at heart, though! My favorite thing about Phoenix is the music and art scene. In my free time, I like to make art and go out to concerts (go figure). I am also a film lover and enjoy learning about anything and everything! I can’t wait to see what this year has in store for us!
Hey there! My name is Gabriela Elizondo-Craig. I am a junior studying Public Health and hope to pursue a Master’s in Public Health after graduation. I am a native Tucsonan and growing up I loved drawing pictures to give to Wilma at basketball games. At first, I didn’t want to come to the U of A because I wanted to get out of Arizona. When I saw what the science programs had to offer, I knew it was the place for me. By getting involved in many capacities my freshman year, U of A quickly became my home and I wouldn’t change my decision for anything. When I’m not at work or class, I enjoy going downtown to check out improv or hang out at hidden coffee shops. I also enjoy crafting, reading, watching football, playing the piano, watching Netflix, and spending time in nature when the weather is tolerable. This is my first year working for ASA and I am so excited for this year!
Hello! My name is Jessica Shinkle and I am a sophomore here at the UA. I am majoring in Animal Sciences: Science & Pre-Professional Emphasis: Equine Sciences Path with the end goal of becoming an exotic animals veterinarian! I’m from Peoria, Arizona (a suburb of Phoenix) and live just 2 miles away from where the Arizona Cardinals play. In my free time I love hanging out with family and friends, watching or playing sports, cooking (and eating of course), watching movies, or getting involved on campus. I’m currently in a Christian organization called Cru, a STEM sorority called Phi Sigma Rho, and Honors Mentor Association. I hope I can help to make your time here at UA great!
Hello, everyone! My name is Khmille Appleton and I am a sophomore here at the University of Arizona. I was born and raised in Phoenix, Arizona but I am in love with the Tucson community. Since I come from a family of Wildcats, I always knew that I would be attending the U of A. I am currently studying Sociology and after I graduate I plan to continue my education by pursuing a master’s degree in counseling. I love spending time with my friends, going to sporting events, and watching Netflix in my spare time. I also enjoy finding new and delicious places to eat. I am so proud to be a part of ASA Peer Mentors and I cannot wait to make a difference in the lives of my students. If you see me around campus, don’t hesitate to say hello – I’m always open to meeting new people!
Aloha Wildcats! I’m Lili Vu, a sophomore studying Business Management with big dreams and aspirations to start a non-profit organization in the future. I’m from Aurora, Colorado, but cherish the summer heat and cacti Arizona has to offer. I chose the University of Arizona because of the environment, the people, and the adventure Tucson always has to offer! I’m part of the University of Arizona Quidditch team, and if you can’t find me on the pitch, you can definitely find me eating at a local pizzeria, hiking, at the gym –pretending I’m actually athletic – or eating more pizza! Mahalo, friends! I hope to see you soon!
Hey, everyone! My name is Amanda Corona but most people call me Mandi. I’m a sophomore here at the UA majoring in English with a minor in Spanish. I hope to one day travel the world and teach English. I was born and raised in Phoenix (specifically Laveen – woo, represent!) and feel so fortunate to attend this beautiful and wonderful university. I can be found watching anime or Korean dramas, eating frozen fruit like it’s candy, thrifting around the city, or reading a book most of the time. I am thrilled to be a part of the wonderful team that is ASA Peer Mentors, and I hope to help as many people as I can this year!
Hi! My name is Mehruba Alam and I am a sophomore majoring in Physiology at the University of Arizona. I’m from Phoenix, Arizona so if you’re not used to the heat yet, I can tell you that you probably never will be. I still haven’t. I plan on going to med school after I complete my undergrad so if you have any questions, feel free to ask! Other than that, I hope everyone has a great year and don’t forget to Bear Down!
Hi, everyone! My name is Shannon Voeller and I am a junior here at the University of Arizona. I am a Public Management & Policy major, minoring in Business Administration. I was born in Glendale, Arizona, but Tucson has been home to me for all my life! So, why did I choose the University of Arizona? Well, I knew I would come to this university when my grandparents took me to my first UA football game when I was just a youngin. I remember seeing people cheering, laughing, and everyone seemed so proud to be a Wildcat. At that moment, I knew the UA was meant for me. I am very excited to begin my second year as an ASA Peer Mentor because I love being able to help our students! So, if you ever see me around campus, make sure to say hi!
Hello, everyone! My name is Yolanda Perez and I am a sophomore here at the University of Arizona. I am majoring in Public Health with a minor in Spanish and plan to pursue a Master’s degree in Public Health as well. I am from Yuma, AZ so yes, I am used to this Tucson heat! I’ve always wanted to come to the U of A because all of my family are U of A alumni/enthusiasts. I am looking forward to meeting all of you this year and I hope you have an awesome year as a Wildcat!
